Why Your Business Needs a Blog

One of the top aims for a business owner is to allow their brand to be discovered, and consistently attract new customers. On the internet this means increasing your online visibility and turning website visitors into leads, which regularly feeds your sales funnel. A blog is still one of the best ways to achieve this and isn’t just for influencers or hobbyists. Read on to find out some of the reasons why your business needs a blog today!

  1. It increases your online visibility
Google likes new content, and websites that are updated regularly. This is hard to achieve with just standard web pages detailing your products and services. A blog is a great way to create multiple new pages for your website, creating additional keyword opportunities as you go. This regularity will enable your content to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPS).

  2. It gives you instant social media content
Once you have created your blog posts, you can share them on social media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin etc. This drives traffic back to your website and helps to keep interest going on your profile pages. You can pull out images or tips from your posts too to make additional content. If you regularly share blogs that are helpful to your audience, then your content is also likely to get shared, again increasing your visibility.

  3. It helps to convert traffic into leads
Now that you have more traffic to your website, you can start to convert this into leads for your sales team. Each blog post should have a clear call to action (CTA) at the end in order to get your website visitors to sign up to a mailing list or enquire about your products / services. Offering free content like white papers, ebooks, fact sheets and webinars with a sign up form will allow you to build an email list fairly quickly.

  4. It establishes your business as an authority in your field
Publishing regular content that helps your readers, in terms of answering common questions, solving a problem, or educational posts etc will all help build your authority on a subject. This in turn increases trust in your business and is more likely to help convert potential leads into sales.

  5. It helps with link building
Most marketers say that link building is the hardest part of search engine optimisation (SEO). This is because Google measures authoritative content by how many other websites have linked to it. This linking needs to happen naturally too, ie by other websites / blogs wanting to link to your content so it adds value to their visitors. A blog is a great way to create this linkable content regularly, all signalling to Google that your website is trustworthy, hence worth pushing up the SERPS for a given search.
